"Prayers of the Community"
A Prayer by Dorothy Buckland
March 8th, 2009
Oh God who is near us
You who looks into the heart of each one of us and names us as your own
You who holds us in love
You who is the web and fabric of our lives.
Let us always remember that you are with us
We ask that you be present to us
That we may surrender to your care
That we me believe that
Your peace is the foundation, the ground of our being
And that the anger and fear and fury are
The wind-driven movements of water over that ground.
Wash us clean in your love
Wash us clean of the rage and depression that
Cover the ground of your peace
That we may find your peace in our own hearts
And
That we may join with other to find that peace together.
And that we may speak from our peace to power and
Act knowing that we can move our world toward more peace
More kindness
More ploughshares instead of swords
And on this International Women’s Day, that men and women will walk together
as partners to extend your peace to the whole kin-dom of God,
To our torn world and all of the creatures in it.
We do not ask for a perfect place
Give us compassion for ourselves and our own imperfections
As well as those of others
Let us not look for peace through anger and retaliation
Help to inch towards compassion
step towards tolerance
open towards dialogue
And walk towards your kin-dom for all
May the stone of your love and peace falling in the pond of the being of each of our
Set up the ripples of peace that flow out to every other one of us
In the whole world
Let us hold in our hearts those who are suffering and unable to find peace
Let us pray together as Jesus taught us:
Loving God, in Whom is Heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom
The Power
And the Glory
Forever and ever,
Amen.
