"Prayers of the Community"
A Prayer by Andy Maton
June 8th, 2008
Sacred Spirit…the One who breathes Life and Love into every Living Thing…we come together today as a Community of Faith to find you, to Worship you, and to talk with you.
As Sister Moon goes around Mother Earth; as Mother Earth goes around Brother Sun; as Brother Sun is a round ball with no beginning and no end; as each of the planets in our own Solar System is a round ball with no beginning and no end…as each of our Earthly Seasons comes around each and every year…both following and leading… the excited and agitated Birth of Spring bringing on the glorious bubbling an burbling Fullness of Summer, the glorious Fullness of Summer bringing on the twilight and waning of Autumn, the warm and melancholy twilight and waning of Autumn bringing on the cold grey Death of Winter, and the cold grey Death of Winter bringing on the new Life of Spring…we know the circle of Life…we know the Rule of Life…
What Goes Around Comes Around.
Sacred One…We come together today as individuals…as solitary hearts and minds, bodies and souls…each and every one of us with our own burdens and joys…each and every one of us with our own afflictions and strengths…each and every one of us with our own needs and fulfillments…each and every one of us with our own deceptions and truths…each and every one of us with our own handicaps and gifts… we come together today as a Community of Faith to find you and to share with you our thoughts and prayers….to Worship you and to give thanks to you
We come together today…in Your Name, Holy and Mysterious One…as solitary individuals making up a circle…a circle of Faith with no beginning and no end…each individual holding hands with the next…each of us reaching out both of our hands to the next…forwards and backwards…each of us holding the next one’s heart…knowing, through your teachings, Holy One… that the circle is stronger than the individual…that the circle is a true form of perfection…knowing that you in your infinite wisdom, generosity, and Love for all of us has given us the gift of the circle and all of its’ own teachings.
The circle is made up of 4 Quarters: God’s gift to us: The 4 Directions; The 4 Winds; The 4 Seasons; The 4 Colours of Man (black/white/yellow/red); and in each and every individual… mental, physical, spiritual, emotional.
So, through and within the strength of the circle, we pray that we may carry the teachings of the circle…that we may carry the strength of our circle away with us today as we leave this Holy Place…that we may carry with us, through the sometimes harsh and cruel events of our days of the week… the challenges that we face…the anger, the violence and the mistruths that we witness from those who haven’t learned your teaching of the circle…that we may carry the understanding that during the days of the week when we are not in this place full of Spirit, we are still part of this circle as we are always a part of the circle that we enter on any given day. We take away with us today, your teaching that no matter where we go, no matter what we do, no matter who we come into contact with…we are always a part of the greater circle of mankind…as if a wheel…as if our circle is a hub in a wheel…as if we also reach out as spokes in the wheel… to the rim…to the circular rim…as if joining the hub of the circle with the rim, by the spokes…knowing that we are creating a wheel that is stronger than it’s individual parts…knowing that we are creating a structure…a circle…that has no beginning and no end.
And knowing that what goes round comes round.
We hold in our prayers today the individuals we now silently name who have a special place in our hearts, who have a special place within our own circles through our offerings of help to them, and we know who have a special place in your Holy circle.
O Great Spirit, you who are the cog in the hub of our wheel of life, we give to you today our hearfelt gratitude for breathing the fire of life into each one of us by offering the words taught to us by your Son…
"Loving God, in Whom is Heaven……"
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom
The Power
And the Glory
Forever and ever,
Amen.
