Canadian Memorial Church

picture of wedding in Canadian Memorial ChurchThe church is located at the corner of West 15 Avenue & Burrard Street in Vancouver. The church office is in the Centre for Peace (across the lane behind the church).

The church can seat up to 400 people and is suitable for weddings, concerts, music recitals, authors’ events and large public gatherings. The charge for the church varies according to the nature of the group/activity and time/day of week. All filming in the church is negotiated by our agent.

The Church has an excellent sound system and we will provide a qualified sound technician.  The fee for the system and technician is in addition to the charge for the use of the space.

Note that during the week prior to the November 11 concert, risers are typically  installed in the chancel and the space is not available for weddings.

Centre for Peace

1825 West 16 Avenue, Vancouver, BC   V6J 2M3

Is the 2nd building west of Burrard on 16th. It is across the lane from the church.

 Location:  On the main floor, approx. 26' wide x 43' long, with high ceilings, large windows and doors (north and south exposure) and a wood parquet floor.

 Suitable for: 

  •   Up to 100 persons seated, theatre-style, for lectures or workshops. 

  •   Music recitals – an upright piano is available to rent for $30.

  •   Smaller functions - tables (6’ long x 2.5’ wide) are available for seating or displays.

  • Wedding tea ceremonies.

  • Small memorial services and memorial receptions.

For large groups, a microphone & speaker are available for rent ($30). A 33” TV with VCR/DVD is available for $30. Users who require other audiovisual equipment (e.g. projectors, screens ) will need to bring it in.  

The Great Hall is used year-round by the church community on Sundays until 1pm.

The kitchen opens on to the Great Hall and for an additional charge, can be used to make coffee and tea or set out catered food. Users are expected to provide their own refreshments. Coffee urns are available for a $15 charge. Very limited fridge space is available, and caterers are asked to bring food close to serving time. We also ask that caterers make arrangements to take away any utensils, urns, carafes or serving dishes that they provide. If a group leaves substantial garbage, we will need to add a surcharge.

Fireside Room

Location:  On the second floor, approx. 12' wide x 28' long, with 2 sofas, lamps and a gas fireplace. Carpeted. Windows and a small balcony face north. A large retractable screen on one wall is ideal for audiovisual presentations. Users will need to bring in their own projectors. A 33” TV with VCR/DVD player is available to use for $30. A counter and sink are available for preparing tea and coffee.  Users are expected to provide their own refreshments.  There is no fridge space.

Suitable for:

  •   Up to 40 people theatre-style for presentations and lectures.

  •   Up to 24 people in a circle for retreats.

  •   Up to 20 people seated around tables.

Small Meeting Room

Location:  On the second floor, approx. 15' wide x 18' long, with 4 comfortable chairs and lamps. Carpeted. Windows and a small balcony face south.  

Suitable for:

  •  Up to 12 people in a circle for discussion or meditation.

 Library

Location:  On the second floor, approx. 17' wide x 18' long, with a table and 6 chairs. Carpeted. Windows face south and west.  Suitable for reading groups, book clubs or meetings requiring a work table.

A door between the Small Meeting Room and Library can be opened to provide a larger space.

Youth Centre

Location: On the lower floor, approximately 26' wide by 43' long, with an 8' high ceiling, linoleum floor, sink, and curtain dividers that can separate the space into three areas.  Rental of this room is restricted, since sound can be an issue with the Great Hall directly above.  The space is decorated with children's church school artwork (other users of the space must work within these displays).

Parking

A parking lot to the west of the Centre contains 24 spaces. Street parking is available on nearby streets with these exceptions (Burrard Street is never available and 16th Avenue parking is prohibited from 3-6 pm Monday to Friday, with a tow away policy for violations). 

3 parking spots in the lot to the west of the Centre for Peace are reserved for disabled use.

Accessibility

A ramp to the west of the church permits access from 15th Avenue or the lane for the mobility-impaired through the west door of the church.  The Centre is accessible from either 16th Ave or the lane, and has an elevator.

All washrooms in the Centre for Peace are wheelchair-accessible. Church washrooms are not wheelchair accessible, but users can access washrooms in the Centre for Peace via the ramp behind the Centre.

Deliveries

A ramp from the lane allows heavy items or caterers’ dollies to be wheeled in the back door of the Centre for Peace.

An elevator services all floors of the Centre.

  •  Arbutus (3 blocks west of Burrard): McDonald’s, Urban Bites and Varsity Chinese.
