 Prayers of the Community

A Prayer By Glenda Thomson
February 25, 2007

Living God,
We turn our hearts and minds to you
in love and hope and praise
seeking your inspiration, your consolation, and your healing touch.

Guide our meditations through this season of Lent.

Help us to comprehend your essence,
and in that endeavour
may our own essence be revealed.

Be the cool nourishing water that helps us yield new fruit
in full season
to mend this hurting world
so that it and every thing that lives in it
may prosper.

In your eye we are all equal.

Yet your people still strive
to dominate
the poor, the hungry, the unloved.

We pray for the courage to follow
in the steps of your son, Jesus,
to tend the least members of our community
so that all can live in peace and dignity.

We pray for the families of those women who died
so cruelly.

May they find some comfort now
in the hope that justice will be done.

And may our society never again ignore
the loss of a single woman
simply because she was
cast out.

We pray also for the families of Indo-Canadian women
killed
to preserve an immoral notion
of entitlement and domination.

We hold in our hearts those who grieve
the loss of a loved one, a job, and a dream.

We hold in our hearts those who suffer
the pain of disappointment, despair, and injury.

We share the joy
of those who find new hope, celebrate accomplishment,
and embark on new adventures.

Gracious God,
we offer out prayers for those who suffer from all diseases,
but let us remember particularly
those who have mental illness in any of its many forms.

We pray for the elderly and for those who are travelling.

Hear us as we name those known to us
in the silence of the next moments.
