Maureen Wild
Bio:
Originally from the farmlands of the Peace River country of northern
Alberta, Maureen taught and ministered for seven years in the inner cities of
Edmonton and Boston. In 1987-88 Maureen did an internship with Grey Nun and
scientist, Dr. Rosalie Bertell, at the International Institute of Concern for
Public Health in Toronto. It focused on the health effects of radioactive
poisoning. During this same year she studied at Regis College and St.
Michael’s, and was introduced to the writings of Thomas Berry, and she received
a certificate in spiritual theology.
Maureen is a Sister of Charity of Halifax. In 1990 she made
her final vows within a new context. She vowed to live as an integral and
responsible member within the community of all creation. Maureen continues to
feel challenged each day by these vows.
After teaching inner city children in Boston for three years,
she completed her Masters Degree in 1993 (in Cambridge, Massachusetts) with a
focus on the evolutionary story of the universe, and earth awareness as it
relates to ethics, justice and spirituality.
Then, for seven years, Maureen lived and worked at Genesis
Farm in New Jersey – an ecological learning center founded by the Sisters of St.
Dominic. She served as its director for four years. See
www.genesisfarm.org.
In 2000 Maureen returned to Canada. Since then, she responds
to numerous requests within Canada and the United States to give presentations,
workshops and to guide retreats. Her themes include: New Cosmology, Coming Home
to Oneness, Emerging Story – Evolving Faith, Spirituality for Earth Healing,
Cosmic and Ecological Christianity, The Green Wisdom of Christian Mystics,
Spiritual Homecoming to the Land: Liberate our Passion for Earth Action, Earth
Wisdom and Life Disciplines for Earth Harmony, Christian Response-ability While
Facing Global Warming and Pursuing Pax Gaia, Growing in Faith and Hope in a Time
of Peril.
Maureen is the visionary co-founder and was the first director
of the Centre for Earth and Spirit. It is an ecological learning centre that
began in 2004 and is located on 23 acres of land on southern Vancouver Island.
